Why a Laser ?
Previous systems used underwater ultrasonic methods that were vulnerable to various problems such as water turbulence caused by tug boats, schools of fish and even barnacles and other marine life attaching themselves to the sensors. These systems need frequent and time consuming levels of maintenance.
Compare these to the Laser system, where maintenance is a breeze. Although fog, rain or snow can influence the distance measuring performance of the system, in practical use, this influence is too small to worry about.
The advantage of using narrow beam laser technology
- Can operate even with small amount of reflection.
- The measurement point can be checked visually to confirm laser transmission from the berth to the ship.
- Easy to confirm measuring data on display.
- Short pulse system provides very accurate measurements.
- Easy installation and maintenance.
